National Children’s Vision and Learning Month

Posted on August 25th, 2010 by clvc

Back to school time is here, and August is National Children’s Vision and Learning Month.  Routine eye exams for your children are important.  As parents we want to make sure our children aren’t struggling with reading and learning because of undiagnosed vision problems.  Vision problems can have a serious impact on a child’s education.

If you are getting your children ready for school, schedule a comprehensive vision and eye health exam. At Clearview Eyecare and Laser Center, we offer a large selection of pediatric eyewear and contact lenses.  Call 817-329-2700 for an appointment.

Computer Vision Syndrome

Posted on August 20th, 2010 by clvc

How Many hours do you spend in front of your computer screen each day?

Earlier this week, The Wall Street Journal featured an article in their health section on how technology takes a toll on your eyesight.  The article states; “more people are showing up at eye appointments complaining of headaches, fatigue, blurred vision and neck pain—all symptoms of computer-vision syndrome (CVS), which affects some 90% of the people who spent three hours or more at day at a computer, according to the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Healthy.”

There are several options listed to help treat the symptoms, including a dedicated pair of computer glasses made to focus at the distance of your monitor, multifocal contacts, and LASIK are a few.  Short and frequent breaks away from your computer screen are always helpful in reducing eye fatigue and strain.

Don’t Smoke!

Posted on August 18th, 2010 by clvc

If you smoke, quit.  Smoking is a well-documented risk factor for macular degeneration.  It has also been linked to dry eye syndrome along with cataracts.  If you smoke, quit!  Seek professional help to quit if needed.  Without getting too preachy – please STOP SMOKING!!!

Doctor Spotlight: Kasey Holdridge, O.D., F.A.A.O.

Posted on August 12th, 2010 by clvc

Dr. Holdridge joined the team at Clearview in January of 2004.  She is the Primary Eyecare Director of Clearview Eyecare and Laser Center and specializes in comprehensive eyecare, contact lenses, and treatment of ocular disease.

In 2005 Dr. Holdridge gained her Fellowship as one of the youngest Fellows in the American Academy of Optometry.

Not only is Dr. Holdridge one of our doctors, but she’s been a patient here at Clearview as well.  Dr. Lehmann performed her refractive surgery in 2004, and she’s been enjoying clear vision since.

Dr. Holdridge, in cooperation with the Lions Club, began the yearly tradition at Clearview of a Free Adult Vision Screening to serve underprivileged community members.

On a personal note, Dr. Holdridge has thoroughly enjoyed the connection made with each of our patients at Clearview, especially watching their families grow over the years. She takes pride in offering the pinnacle of eyecare and being part of a team that truly provides care in a manner equivalent to taking care of our her own family.

On the subject of family, Dr. Holdridge is happily married to her childhood sweetheart, Scott, and just celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary.  They have two beautiful boys ages three and three months old.

Summer Eyecare Tips

Posted on August 9th, 2010 by clvc

Everyone loves summer and being outdoors to enjoy the sunshine, but ultraviolet (UV) are harmful to your eyes. Most everyone knows that UV light can cause skin cancer, but many people are unaware that these rays can cause cataracts and macular degeneration. A simple safeguard is to wear sunglasses. Make sure that the sunglasses block at least 99% of the UVA and UVB light. If the sunglasses are not labeled that they provide protection then they probably do not! At Clearview we offer a wide variety of sunglasses but by far the most popular are Maui Jim and Oakley. Please feel free to click on the link that will take you directly to our on-line optical to shop the wide variety of sunglasses available.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by our blog!  I am very excited about this new project and look forward to sharing updates and discussing new and interesting eyecare information with you.

A little background information:  Dr. Robert Lehmann and I founded Clearview Eyecare and Laser Center in January of 2000.  We now have a total of five eyecare professionals with over 70 years of combined experience.  Since the inception, our goal has been to provide the highest standards of eyecare.  We are both very proud of the fact that we provide a full range of services for our patients; including routine eyecare, glaucoma diagnosis and treatment, cataract surgery, LASIK/PRK surgery, emergency services, contact lens fitting, and a very large selection of eyeglasses to choose from in our eyewear gallery.

All of us here at Clearview enjoy being a part of the Southlake community, and we look forward to extending this community online.  I hope you find our blog informative.  I would love to hear from you if you have any questions or feedback.

Best Regards,

Dr. Wallace Ryne
